{"id":267235,"date":"2025-08-18T12:00:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T18:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.navigators.org\/?p=267235"},"modified":"2025-10-14T08:53:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T14:53:06","slug":"faith-in-a-frat-house-a-legacy-of-spiritual-generations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.navigators.org\/blog\/faith-in-a-frat-house-a-legacy-of-spiritual-generations\/","title":{"rendered":"Faith in a Frat House: A Legacy of Spiritual Generations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Brian never imagined his life would be transformed inside the walls of a fraternity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A driven athlete from California, he entered college at the University of Washington (UW) focused on earning a spot as a Division I football player and proving himself within the rigorous and image-driven fraternity culture. Parties, status, and outward appearances defined his identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI just wanted to be known as one of the guys,\u201d Brian remembers. \u201cI wanted to be an awesome guy in <em>their <\/em>image.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But with one simple invitation, everything changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Faith in a Frat House: A Legacy of Spiritual Generations\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9BodptthRHQ?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/www.navigators.org&#038;rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When Navigator <a href=\"https:\/\/donations.navigators.org\/s\/fund\/a4eHp000001mRmGIAU\/nathaniel-beck\/?sf_ac=w07\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Nathaniel Beck<\/a> \u2014 an alumni of Brian\u2019s fraternity \u2014&nbsp;reached out to the house and asked if anyone wanted to join a Bible study, Brian found himself interested. He showed up \u2014&nbsp;and kept showing up. Gradually, the Lord transformed his heart for Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through weekly Bible studies and being discipled by other believers, Brian experienced a shift in his priorities and identity. As Brian\u2019s understanding of the gospel deepened, so did his boldness and courage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs I grew in my faith, I became a lot more proud of it,\u201d Brian says. \u201cI started being willing to take risks and have tough conversations with guys because I know this is the way and the truth in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wanting to pass on what he\u2019d learned to others, Brian began to share his faith with his fraternity brothers, leading a summer Bible study at his house with a friend. One of their fraternity brothers, Louie, grew curious and decided to check out the group. Over the summer, Brian watched as Louie\u2019s faith grew, developing from a place of doubt into a certain and dedicated belief in Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI used to be this guy that wanted to control everything and everyone in terms of how I wanted to navigate my life,\u201d Louie says. \u201cAfter finally letting that go and accepting God&#8217;s plan, it gave me this ease that if I can just follow him, I know I&#8217;m going to be alright.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Generational Gospel Movement in Fraternity Row<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Brian and Louie\u2019s story is just one chapter in a much larger narrative of what God is doing in UW\u2019s Greek system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Long before Brian stepped foot on campus, God was already at work. Since the 1990s, the Lord has been planting seeds of faith in the fraternities, weaving a multigenerational chain of discipleship. Some seasons were fast and fruitful, others slow and unseen \u2014 but the legacy continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past three decades, at least seven fraternity brothers have carried the torch, passing on the gospel from one brother to another. Brian and Louie are the most recent links in that chain \u2014 and their spiritual generations will only continue to multiply in the years to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is just one little snapshot of what God&#8217;s been doing over the years at UW,\u201d Navigator <a href=\"https:\/\/donations.navigators.org\/s\/fund\/a4e1Q000000Ui1LQAS\/keith-and-kate-pepsny\/?sf_ac=w07\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Keith Pepsny<\/a>, The Navigators regional director for Seattle and the Pacific Northwest, says. \u201cSometimes it&#8217;s slow, sometimes it&#8217;s fast, sometimes it&#8217;s a few people, sometimes it&#8217;s a lot of people. But the Lord is moving \u2014 one generation at a time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Join us in praying over the Greek ministry at UW, as the Lord softens hearts at fraternities and sororities and passes the torch of the gospel from one house to the next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong><em>\u201cOne generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts\u201d <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bible.com\/bible\/111\/PSA.145.4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong><em>Psalm 145:4<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em> (NIV).<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Discipleship Tip:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As Brian grew in his faith, he practiced boldness by sharing the gospel with his friends in Greek life and starting a summer Bible study.
